District attorney: Prosecutors need more information about rape allegation

Douglas County prosecutors are seeking more information from investigators before deciding whether to file charges against a 26-year-old Lawrence man accused of sexually assaulting his girlfriend, District Attorney Charles Branson said Thursday.

Lawrence police arrested the man Tuesday night on suspicion of rape and domestic battery after interviewing him about the allegations. Police were called that evening to Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s emergency room after a 22-year-old Lawrence woman alleged her boyfriend assaulted her at a residence in central Lawrence.

Police said the woman’s physical injuries were minor and not life threatening.

The man was released from custody Thursday.
