Consultant advises Reno County to rethink plans for new jail

? Consultants have told Reno County officials they may have to rethink plans to put a jail on the city’s east side because of possible technological obstacles.

Consultants from the National Institute of Corrections say there could be problems with computer connections between the courthouse and a jail that might be built on the city’s east side. They told the Reno County Jail Study Committee it should consider a site near the courthouse.

The Hutchinson News reports that city voters rejected a plan five years ago that would have put a new jail on the Reno County Courthouse campus.

The county has launched a push for a jail to replace the aging jail and annex. Preliminary site talk for a new jail has focused on locations away from the courthouse.
