Lawrence man dismissed of aggravated arson charge in North Lawrence incident

Douglas County prosecutors have dismissed an aggravated arson charge against a 32-year-old Lawrence man accused of trying to set an occupied North Lawrence mobile home on fire in June, but they say they expect to re-file the case later.

District Attorney Charles Branson said Tuesday that several witnesses in the case could not be located to be served with subpoenas for a preliminary hearing for William David Charleston. Charleston was originally accused of attempting to set fire to the mobile home in the 800 block of Walnut Street with several people, including three small children, inside.

Charleston was still listed as an inmate at the Douglas County Jail on Tuesday. He was also arrested in June on a Kansas Department of Corrections warrant related to his post-release supervision related to a 2008 aggravated battery conviction.
