One phase of the major repaving project on Sixth Street is about to wrap up, and another is set to begin next week.

Thursday morning's rain delayed work on the section of Sixth Street between Kentucky and Missouri streets that was slated to begin at 2 a.m. Thursday. So work was expected to get underway Thursday afternoon.

Crews also are expected to do a second round of paving beginning at 2 a.m. on Friday, weather permitting

Work then will move to stretch of Sixth Street between Missouri and Iowa streets. Crews will mill the surface, make base repairs and add new pavement. Work is expected to begin Aug. 8 and be finished by mid-September, according to the city.

I drive it every day - thanks to the very professional crews working out in ubelievable conditions and, I'm sure, putting up with less than understanding drivers all day.

This project has gone fast - and in such terrible heat. That road crew ROCKS.

A third "hip hip hooray" for the road crews. They're busting it out there. I hope their bosses are giving them plenty of water/cooling breaks. This weather has been absolutely brutal, and I work in the AC all day long. Can't imagine doing what they do.

I drove east through the work zone today and the freshly repaved south half of 6th St. looks great! Not much of a traffic delay, either, considering the complexity of the job.

Yeah, and nobody minds half (or more) shutting down a number of businesses on the south side of 6th! What a city. Ya gotta love 'em.
