Kansas crop condition continues decline amid heat

? The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service says triple-digit temperatures continue to put pressure on Kansas farm crops despite spotty thunderstorms in some locations.

The agency reported Monday in its weekly crop update that 38 percent of the Kansas corn crop is in poor to very poor condition. About 28 percent was rated as fair, 29 percent is rated as good and 5 percent is excellent. KASS noted the extreme heat came during the critical pollination stage.

The heat also is taking a toll on other crops.

About 40 percent of the sorghum and 39 percent of the soybeans were in poor to very poor condition.

The service says about 11 percent of the sunflower crop also is in poor to very poor condition.
