Lien registered to collect debt owed to KU
A former employee who owes Kansas Athletics Inc. $56,000 after pleading guilty for his role in a ticket-stealing conspiracy now faces the prospect of a lien in Douglas County.
This week, the department filed documents seeking to register a post-judgment lien against Jason Jeffries, a former assistant director of ticket operations who pleaded guilty to failing to notify authorities about the ongoing tickets scam, which prosecutors say lasted for five years and cost the department at least $2 million.
Jeffries has been ordered to pay the department $56,000 in restitution. Should Jeffries attempt to sell property in the county, the lien would prevent him from passing clear title until the debt to the department had been paid, said Jim Marchiony, a department spokesman.
“This is a method of attempting to collect on that debt,” Marchiony said.
