Brownie Troop 1915 visited the Lawrence Humane Society, 1805 E. 19th St., April 21. While there, they were given a tour and explained how the Humane Society provides for the community. The troop also made cat toys and brought other supplies to aid the Humane Society. Brownies attending were: Amber Billings, Kaylee Burgen, Jillian Decker, Jaeden Ellis, Grace Farney, Emma Lane, Lizzie Lemmon, Ryleigh Leon, Hayley Lockwood, Isabel Mann, Grace Mayhew, Gracie Moore, Chloe Myers, Anna Nellis, Ellis Spray, Lydia Storm, Laura Teska, Sami Turner, Grace Urban and Haley Webb.

Members of Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 joined in with members of Cub Scout Pack 3064, Eudora 4-H Club, Eudora Girl Scout troops, and Eudora United Methodist Church Youth to gather more than 2,580 food items for the Eudora Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry on April 16. With help from the adult leaders, friends and the volunteer staff at the food pantry housed in the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Eudora, they collected several bags of nonperishable food items from Eudora and delivered them to the pantry. Troop 64 is chartered to the Eudora Lions Club and meets at 7 p.m. on Mondays at West Elementary School.

Frank Depenbusch

Pelathe District announces Frank Depenbusch of Troop 59, the son of Eagle Scout Dennis Depenbusch and wife Darcilyn, successfully passed his Eagle Board of Review on April 18.

He is a sophomore at Bishop Seabury Academy, where he is involved in a variety of sports. Depenbusch is also active with his church youth group and works part-time as a para-professional.

In Scouting, he earned at least 25 merit badges including an uncommon one — plumbing. Depenbusch has served as a troop guide and as senior patrol leader. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and is a warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Prior to moving to Lawrence and joining Troop 59, Depenbusch was with in a troop in Texas. He has been to the Sea Base in Florida and attended the BSA National Jamboree in 2010. Depenbusch will attend Philmont this summer with Troop 59.

For his Eagle project, he discovered a new home purchased by his church as a residence for visiting priests needed a complete renovation of the backyard. Depenbusch’s workers cut out a tremendous overgrowth of vegetation, cleared piles of masonry rubble, leveled the dirt and prepared the entire yard for spring planting. They also created a serenity area for contemplation and added a long bench for sitting.

Lawrence Scouting units participated in the Lawrence Scouting-for-Food drive on April 16 and collected more than 7,300 items of food.
