A former assistant athletics director at Kansas University is requesting a medical delay before he begins a prison term for taking part in a $2 million ticket scalping conspiracy.

Rodney Jones has been told by the U.S. Marshals Service to report May 2 to prison in El Reno, Okla., to begin his 46-month sentence.

His attorney filed a motion Wednesday asking for 30-day extension so Jones may undergo orthopedic surgery and recuperate.

Jones pleaded guilty in January to a single count of conspiracy to defraud the United States through wire fraud, tax obstruction and interstate transportation of stolen property.

Jones also was ordered to pay $1.3 million in restitution. Prosecutors say he spent the money on an “extensive rolling party scene” that lasted five years.
