Accident at intersection of Ninth Street and Centennial Drive causes overnight power outage

April 27, 2011

An injury accident at the intersection of Ninth Street and Centennial Drive caused a power outage for 189 Westar Energy customers early Wednesday morning.

There were no serious injuries in the accident, according to Operation 100 News.

Westar representative Gina Penzig said customers were without power from about 2 a.m. to about 8 a.m.

Penzig said the outage was caused by damage done to a power pole in the accident.

Traffic on Ninth Street was delayed during rush hour while crews fixed the power pole.

Whitney: Doesn't Centennial Drive start at 900? Wouldn't 800 Centennial drive be in the middle of Centennial Park?

In theory, if you hit the power pole on the north side of Ninth Street, it would be considered the 800 block. I suspect this guy is the victim:,-94.578567&sspn=0.988997,2.421112&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=800+Centennial+Dr,+Lawrence,+Kansas+66049&ll=38.967931,-95.2639&spn=0.001935,0.004729&z=19&layer=c&cbll=38.967931,-95.2639&panoid=Fe0OcjJhxsHQ6ELpBheaAQ&cbp=12,45.13,,0,3.25

But if it helps, I can change it to say the "south side of the intersection of Ninth Street and Centennial Drive."

Yea, two likely victims there. I say call one Wayne, and the other Larry.

I happened to just drive by there and it was neither of those two poles. It was another one 20-30 yards farther west of that intersection on the south side of 6th St. So it was on the 2400 block of W 6th. Not 800 block, and not Centennial. :)
