Scouting news for April 23, 2011

Lawrence Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered by the Lawrence First United Methodist Church, participated in an overnight event on March 12-13. The troop had a fun-filled rock climbing experience at IBEX in Kansas City, Mo. Scouts attending were: Thomas Peterson, John Peterson, Gavin Spence, Andrew Bireta, Mark Smith, John McArthur, Jamie Messer, Joe Cary, Jacob Lashley, Robert Newman, Max Briggs, Ryan Glogau, Finn Nesbit and John Anderson. Adults attending were: Kent Peterson, Kevin Lashley, Dan Cary, Rich Bireta, Jace Newman and Randy Smith.

Three Scouts, Joe Cary, Jamie Messer and John McArthur, earned the Climbing Merit Badge.

Lawrence Boy Scout Thomas Peterson was awarded the “Pope Pius XII” Catholic Boy Scout Religious Emblem on April 3. The medal was presented to him by Archbishop Joseph Naumann at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City, Kan. Thomas is the senior patrol leader of Lawrence Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered by the Lawrence First United Methodist Church. The “Pope Pius XII” program is a seven month vocation-based program for Catholic Boy Scouts of high school or college age. The youths explore current and future calls from God within their inner self, community and church community. Thomas is a parishioner of Lawrence Corpus Christi Church. Sue Reiske was the instructor of this program.
