If television were an arbiter of reality, half the people on earth would be preparing for their wedding and the other half would be wondering what to wear for the big occasion. “Dresscue Me” (9:30 p.m., Planet Green) becomes the latest installment in the frantic wedding-dress genre. It celebrates Shareen Mitchell, a Los Angeles dress designer who discovers castoff frocks at local Salvation Army outlets and recycles the fabric into fancy and expensive outfits for the likes of Katie Holmes, Katy Perry, Cat Deeley and other droppable names.

If this were the sum of her efforts, you would say more power to her and change the channel, but like a lot of basic-cable fare, “Dresscue Me” elevates mere shopping to a life-and-death struggle worthy of spectacular planning and preparation. It’s also shot through with brittle histrionics. Women scream at their assistants like the Great Santini berating his son. And what the heck is this doing on Planet Green?

• Shows not dedicated to wedding preparation and shopping seem to be set in Alaska. Even the serious ones. Tonight’s “Frontline” (8 p.m., PBS, check local listings) examines a little-known chapter of the ongoing scandal in the Roman Catholic church, a pattern of abuse of Native Americans in Alaska by the clergy and church workers during the 1960s and 1970s.

• Imagine a ravenous rampaging infestation of enormous creatures — some up to 700 pounds — bent on destroying farms and property. Imagine 6 million of them. Are we talking about a science-fiction movie? Or America’s feral boar crisis? “Hogs Gone Wild” (9 p.m., Discovery) returns for a second season, documenting efforts to eradicate and control this aggressive menace. We’re told that just two fertile hogs can result in thousands of not-so-little piggies over time. Apparently, they breed like rabbits. Do they taste like chicken?
