Baldwin City school board puts off discussion on busing

Cutting busing to all USD 348 students who live inside the city limits of Baldwin City drew the attention of several school district patrons.

The Baldwin City school board held a special public forum Monday night, giving patrons the chance to voice their opinions. Five of the 28 audience members spoke against cutting transportation inside the city limits. Safety, lack of sidewalks and parents working out of town were the three main reasons that were given.

The district’s transportation committee made a recommendation to the school board at its April 11 meeting to cut all busing to students inside the city limits. If passed, it would save the district between $20,000 and $30,000.

The school board made no decision and didn’t discuss the topic Monday. It will have the topic on its May 9 meeting.
