Wichita Police in Wichita say a fisherman picking up lures along the banks of the Arkansas River made an unusual discovery.
What the angler first thought was a fishing lure turned out to be a military-grade grenade.
It's not known where the small explosive came from or how long it had been in the mud before the fisherman found it Sunday afternoon. KFDI-FM reports the fisherman called police, who contacted McConnell Air Force Base about handling the device.
The police bomb squad wound up retrieving the grenade, which was taken to a bomb range for disposal.
