WELLINGTON ? Authorities in a southern Kansas county are working to make it harder for underage drinkers to hide their activities.

Officers from the Sumner County sheriff’s department took to the skies and back roads over the weekend looking for signs of drinking parties. KWCH-TV reports the operation began Saturday night and ended early Sunday.

Deputies drove along dirt roads, river beds and lakefronts. They also took up an airplane to look for bonfires or lines of vehicles on back roads.

The operation ended with no arrests. But deputies say they’re pleased to have spread the word they’ll be looking for outdoor drinking parties.

A state grant financed the operation, which had to be held during a time that teens might be drinking, such as prom season or spring break.
