Statehouse Live: Push on for medical marijuana in Kansas

? Supporters of legalizing marijuana for medical reasons are making a push this session to get a hearing on their proposed legislation.

State Rep. Gail Finney, D-Wichita, urged supporters to contact their legislators this week to work on the proposal.

Finney has introduced the “Cannabis Compassionate Care Act,” which would legalize the use of medical marijuana for Kansans with certain debilitating illnesses, such as cancer, AIDS, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis and hepatitis C.

The Kannabis Project is organizing a day of action on Wednesday to urge legislative leaders to allow a hearing on House Bill 2330. Currently, 15 states and Washington D.C. have medical marijuana laws, Finney said.

The Legislature reconvenes its session on April 27.
