40 years ago: Stull resident returns home to find surprise in her yard

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 16, 1971:

  • A woman returning to her home two miles southwest of Stull had discovered another woman, nude, in the yard of her home. After donating a bedspread for the woman to wear, the homeowner notified officials, who picked up the trespasser, described as 63 years old and from Topeka. The woman, who was charged with drunkenness, told deputies that she did not remember much except that she had left a Topeka bar earlier in the company of a man, and that apparently she had left her clothes in his car.
  • The Lawrence parks and recreation department was making “picnic kits” available to individuals and groups during this spring and summer. The kits included games and equipment such as horseshoes and stakes, volleyball and net, one softball and two bats, a playground ball, and a Frisbee. There was a $5 deposit for the use of the kit, which was refunded upon return of the equipment in an undamaged state.
