Citing lingering drought, Finney County rejects proposal for aerial fireworks sales

? A lingering drought and fear of fires has dampened the Fourth of July party in Finney County.

The county commission on Monday rejected a proposal to allow the sale of aerial fireworks in the county.

A Garden City woman who sells fireworks had asked the commission to consider a one-year trial for selling the aerial fireworks. Supporters argued that the fireworks are already sold in neighboring counties and are allowed under state laws.

But commissioners who voted against the proposal cited ongoing drought and wildfire warnings for the area.

The Garden City Telegram reports that commissioner David Jones said the weather conditions made it a terrible year for the triall.
