NWS cancels severe thunderstorm watch for Douglas County early

1:37 a.m. update

The National Weather Service has canceled the severe thunderstorm watch issued for Douglas County early.

11:00 p.m. update

Some rain is making its way through the area while the county remains under the severe thunderstorm watch. Law enforcement officials also reported quarter sized hail moving through the area toward Lawrence, though none has been reported locally yet.

The watch is set to expire at 4 a.m. Saturday.

9:11 p.m. update

The National Weather Service in Topeka has placed Douglas and surrounding counties under a severe thunderstorm watch through 4 a.m. Saturday.

The watch means conditions are favorable for severe storms which may include hail, damaging winds and possible isolated tornadoes.

Neighboring counties also effected include Jefferson and Leavenworth.
