Looks like Sven Alstrom will be banned ........ Again! Starting tomorrow....?

The interactive map seems to be way behind the totals on the blog.

It's caught up now. The county's feed was a bit slower than the results they were handing out at the courthouse.

Sven's color on the map is appropriately baby poopish.

Sayonara, Sven - but best of luck in your "Prairie Home Companion" gig

So much hate spilled out on these forums, so little of anything else. It's really sad. Regardless of how much this Sven haters club hates Sven, I wish the few of you could make an attempt to conduct your virtual identities in a dignified manor. It just reflects poorly on all of Lawrence to have so many of the frequent posters here contributing nothing to these forums except grade-school glee over the hatred of another human being.

This is how people get trampled to death at Wal-Mart on Black Friday's for $64 cameras. When group think kicks in ethical standards fly right out the window. The fact that other people are doing it makes it okay. So join in! Really?

C'mon people, we're trying to have a civilization here!

(ps, my comment goes well beyond Sven, or any of the mildly distasteful comments made above, which only make sense in the wider context of the last several months. It is about the basic incivility of these forums, no matter what the topic is.)

Sorry to tell you that the kool aid stand is closed.....

SeaBee 3 years, 9 months ago

I see no hate in any of these comments, just a feeling of relief.

Sven was the one who got himself banned for repeated transgressions.

Unfortunately, Tim, that's what happens on forums where anonymity is allowed. Certainly there will always be people who will be rude and abusive even when their names are revealed, but most people will hesitate if they're held personally responsible for their online comments.

Since so many comments on so many forums are, as you say, uncivil and add nothing to the conversation (outside of occasionally being pretty funny), I'd love to see the J-W change their policy.

while I would prefer to hear more about Hugh Carter, I just don't know much about him. I will say I feel relief that Sven won't be one of the elected voices of my community.

I voted for Schumm, I am not a strong supporter but when he was last a comissioner he seemed to listen to argument and sometimes change his mind. I don't like the idea of someone voting his ideology without consideration of the specifics of an issue.

gl0ck0wn3r 3 years, 9 months ago

Yes, and he's a truther, a peak oil guy AND a DJ.

tribalzendancer 3 years, 9 months ago

Haha, yes everything you've heard is true! :D I love you guys, really I do. Don't let my constructive criticism give you the wrong impression. All of this discussion is pretty silly at the end of the day, just characters playing our roles. : )

Sven could have used this forum as a campaign tool, and he chose not to. It was only after Rundle came on board that Sven stopped posting. I feel very passionate about many topics. It is those topics that I often lose control and make childish comments, and it does sometimes get personal. It is one of my many flaws. I guess what they say about the internet is true, once it's out there, it's there forever. The comments Sven made in the past about the LHS fields, the Oread, and his personal attacks on his peers HAD to be brought back to the surface during this campaign. The public needed to know he reported Dan Rockhill. They needed to know he bragged about having his dog crap all over the new football field and that he praised the vandalism at the Oread. None of this is something a select few of us made up. It was all there...all of it and more. On your FB page he blames this forum, the way it is ran, and some of the regular posters for his election bid loss. Truth is he only has himself to blame.

gl0ck0wn3r 3 years, 9 months ago

lulz and now he's quoting this post in his rant and suggesting his detractors on this forum are a cabal of developers and school employees. Awesome.

pace 3 years, 9 months ago

I am not sure but it looks like a normal vote level. I wonder if I am remembering wrong but 5000 seems an average vote count?

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 3 years, 9 months ago

You may not like Sven, but if you expect anything better out of those who managed to get themselves elected, prepare to be disappointed.

monkeyhawk 3 years, 9 months ago

Are you going to ask the deadbeat loser for a refund, boozo?

Flap Doodle 3 years, 9 months ago

The svombie put in a lot of time and energy into offending people on this board. His chickens came home to roost. He'll be back again under yet another username and will wind up getting disappeareded again. And so it goes.

Yes, but you can follow the hilarious temper tantrum/whining on Sven's campaign pages on facebook.

Flap Doodle 3 years, 9 months ago

Dear ghost posting dudes & dudettes, we never see anything you are posting. It is a total waste of your time.

gl0ck0wn3r 3 years, 9 months ago

Shhhhhh he's stalking the site and culling information on his adversaries. He's already figured out I'm a former City Commissioner! ohnoes.
