A 55-year-old Wellsville woman died Sunday afternoon when she was struck by a train near Kansas Highway 33 in Wellsville.

According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Debra Nitcher was walking eastbound near the tracks when she stepped out in front of the oncoming BNSF train, which was also traveling eastbound.

The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
