40 years ago: Local voters face full ballot on Election Day

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 3, 1971:

About 11,500 Douglas County voters were expected to show up at the polls on the upcoming Election Day. Residents were facing a conglomeration of eight school board races, four city commissioner openings, and four special question. All sections of the county were facing the statewide question of whether 18- to 20-year-olds would be allowed to vote on state issues. (The people in that age group were already permitted to cast ballots in federal elections.) Lawrence voters were also deciding on the institution of a one-half cent city sales tax to finance additional police officers and firefighters.
