40 years ago: Director Robert Altman attends movie premiere in Lawrence

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 2, 1971:

  • Movie director Robert Altman was in Lawrence to attend the Midwest premiere of his latest film, “Thieves Like Us.” An audience that filled half of Hoch Auditorium at Kansas University participated in a question-and-answer period after the screening of the two-hour film.
  • The total for construction permits issued in March, 1971, was the highest in eight months, even though housing construction was still lagging behind earlier levels. So far there had been 33 single-family housing construction permits issued since Jan. 1, compared to 53 for the same period the year before. The March permits were boosted by a building permit issued to K-Mart for construction of a building valued at $903,300.
