Statehouse Live: Legislators getting increase in subsistence pay

? Kansas legislators are getting a bump in their expense accounts.

State lawmakers will see their subsistence pay increase Friday from $116 per legislative meeting day to $123.

Over a 90-day legislative session, that is an increase of $630. The increase also applies to legislators who attend interim committee meetings prior to the January start-up of the 2011 legislative session.

Subsistence is meant for lodging and meals and other expenses.

Under state law, the legislative subsistence rate is tied to the federal subsistence rate, which applies to federal employees who travel to Topeka on business.

Kansas legislators also are paid $88.66 per day on legislative days. That rate will not increase.
