KU soccer edged in OT

Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s soccer team tripped Kansas University, 1-0, in overtime on Friday at Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

In first half action senior Lauren Jackson (12) tries to get the ball past defender Mary Wandolowski (2).

Kansas university forward Amy Grow, left, battles for a ball against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

KU junior forward Kortney Clifton (5) tries to get around the Panther defense as Kansas went against Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday, Sept. 16, 2010.

KU (3-4) outshot Milwaukee (3-3-2), 24-22.

Whitney Berry had a team-high seven shots, and Emily Cressy finished with five — two off the crossbar.

Kat Liebetrau collected seven saves. She has stopped five or more shots in five of KU’s seven games.

“It wasn’t that we didn’t create chances. We’re creating chances. We just have to finish them,” KU coach Mark Francis said.

Berry had two late shots that missed by inches.

“We were creating chances but definitely unlucky,” Berry said. “We were trying to force it too much down the middle, and that just wasn’t working out for us.”

In overtime, Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Sarah Hagen took a pass from Keara Thompson and shot the ball just out of reach of a diving Liebetrau.

KU will play host to Missouri State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
