25 years ago: Poll finds most Americans don’t use computers
A new poll found that although most adult Americans did not use computers, nearly three-quarters believed they were easy to use. Only 17 percent of the respondents said they owned home computers and 32 percent said they used them at work. Also, a majority of the adults surveyed said that children were generally more computer-savvy than their parents.
The Lawrence Police Officers Assn. filed a lawsuit against the city seeking a 5 percent salary increase and punitive damages in excess of $10,000 for lost wages.
Kansas Public Service, Lawrence’s privately owned natural gas utility, was in talks with Lawrence city staff to try to agree on a proposed rate increase without the help of an independent arbiter, which would have cost about $17,000. The proposed increase of approximately 5.13 cents per 1,000 cubit feet of gas would have resulted in an increase of about 45 cents for the average residential customer.
