Lane switch completed one day early on Kansas Turnpike

Plans to switch traffic lanes on a 3-mile stretch of the Kansas Turnpike that is under construction were completed one day early.

This summer, traffic from the East Lawrence interchange to the Lawrence service area has been reduced to one lane in each direction as crews reconstruct the road. All traffic has been confined to the eastbound lanes.

Now that the westbound lanes are done, crews will rebuild the eastbound lanes.

The switch was set to be completed Saturday, but the KTA finished moving both the eastbound and westbound lanes Friday.

Earlier in the week, the KTA had anticipated starting the westbound lane changes Thursday morning and finishing the process by the end of the day.

However with rain delays, the KTA decided to start lane changes Thursday evening, when it moved the westbound traffic lane just before rush hour. The eastbound lane switch was completed late Friday afternoon.
