Nobody wants to be in an emergency situation, but planning for one is crucial. To spread awareness about this, agencies around Lawrence are pairing up to sponsor this year’s Preparedness Fair.

The fair coincides with National Preparedness Month, which takes place each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.

Attendees will receive items to put in an emergency kit and have the chance to enter drawings for door prizes. There will also be several demonstrations during the event, highlighting severe weather, basic first aid and fire-safety tips. The fair will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 21.
