100 years ago: Fraternity reinstated, exonerated in matter of ‘keg party’
From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 8, 1910:
“At a special called meeting this morning the Board of Regents of the state university formally reinstated the Sigma Nu chapter to all privileges of the institution. The regents exonerated the chapter from all guilt in the alleged ‘keg party’ in the house last spring and rescinded all previous action taken in the matter…. Announcement was made today of a gift of $25,000 to Friends University, the Quaker college located at Wichita. Friends University is one of the leading denominational colleges of Kansas, but its endowment is small, and this gift will be of inestimable value to the institution…. Books required for First Grade in Lawrence: Primer, ‘First Days in Reading,’ 14 cents; Silver first reader, 11 cents; Ward’s Primer, 40 cents; Slate and Pencil; Lead Pencil and Tablet….
