40 years ago: KU, Haskell sign service agreement

A $152,889 contract, issued to Kansas University from Haskell, stipulated that KU must provide 15 part-time instructors to Haskell and provide leaders for staff training sessions and a closed-circuit instructional television system. The contract also provided funds to bring experts to the Haskell campus for work with students and staff. Louis Ballard, a Cherokee-Quapaw composer, was scheduled to be on campus in early October to work with music students. A Pulitzer-winning author and several other experts in their fields were also being contacted to appear at Haskell in conjunction with the school’s new liberal arts program.

Vince Lombardi had been struck down by cancer two days previously. The coach’s funeral was to be held in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. Pallbearers were to include three of his former players, one of his former coaches, his employers, and three longtime friends.
