Southwest Kansas man charged with trying to kill 3 children

? A southwest Kansas man is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder after three children were found injured at his home.

Liberal Police Capt. Pat McClurg says Irineo Garcia was charged Monday.

McClurg says police found the children, ages 5,6 and 7, injured in the house on Oct. 18. Garcia was in the front yard of the home with apparently self-inflicted wounds.

The High Plains Daily Leader reports that Southwest Medical Center said Tuesday that the three children have been released from the hospital.

Garcia was arrested Friday after he was released from a Wichita hospital. He made his first court appearance Monday and is being held in the Seward County Jail on $1 million bond.

District Attorney Don Scott says an attorney will be appointed to represent Garcia.
