— The Leavenworth County Attorney says he will not file charges against police who were involved in a fight with a man who later died.

County Attorney Todd Thompson says the officers acted appropriately while they were subduing Edward Stevenson in downtown Leavenworth on July 18.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens says when Stevenson became combative, four officers used Tasers and physical force to subdue him. Stevenson became un responsive and died after an ambulance arrived.

The Leavenworth Times reports that Thompson says a forensic pathologist attributed Stevenson's death to excited delirium, the altercation with officers and an enlarged heart. Cocaine and hydrocodone were found in Stevenson's system.

So please, enlighten as to your vast law enforcement experience and how you can single-handedly arrest and control someone who fights with seemingly superhuman strength since he feels no pain. I'm quite sure the law enforcement community as a whole would greatly benefit from your knowledge and training!

You, sir and or madam, are a perfect example of speaking to a subject to which you have no knowledge and even less experience.

So the police get to use the "He made us kill him" defense...

Someone messed up on that kind of stuff can have some pretty amazing strength.

Wow, really??? Didn't see that coming a mile away. Don't even know why they pretended to investigate it. We all knew what the outcome was going to be on July 18th.

This man died because he violated a simple rule of logic: Don't want to die? Then don't get in a fight with four people armed with guns, tazers, batons, pepper spray, etc....

I'd be willing to bet money that he'd be alive today if he wouldn't have resisted arrest. It's a simple concept really: Cop tells you to get on the ground with your hands behind your back, you GET ON THE GROUND WITH YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK.

WHY 4 years, 8 months ago

Really? Police not held responsible for the death of a citizen. When was the last time a citizen killed a cop and the police ruled that it was only an accident.

It could be because it was the drugs, his enlarged heart, and his fighting the police that were responsible for his death. Duh!
