Ray Evans, head of Kansas University’s search committee for a new athletic director, has made it clear the field of applicants includes candidates not currently serving as athletic directors.

One such applicant, the Journal-World has learned, is Atlantic Coast Conference associate commissioner Shane Lyons, who works out of the conference’s offices in Greensboro, N.C.

Lyons is chairman of the NCAA Div. I Legislative Council and has worked for the ACC since 2001, coming there from Texas Tech, where he was in charge of compliance. Before that, Lyons spent nine years working for the NCAA offices when they were located in Overland Park. He also has held positions in the Big South Conference and in the athletic department of his alma mater, West Virginia.
