25 years ago: 23-year-old arrested for selling counterfeit KU season tickets

Kansas University police had arrested a 23-year-old student for selling counterfeit season tickets for KU basketball. The bona fide tickets were printed with built-in security measures, but police believed that up to 15 to 20 bogus season tickets had been sold at prices from $37.50 up.

In the nation’s capital, lawmakers were once again debating a bill to extend the length of daylight-savings time. Past bills had been approved by both sides of Congress, but they had never become law because the House and Senate had never been able to agree on the same bill. Opponents of the bill were calling it the “Urban Convenience Act of 1985,” saying that it benefited city-dwellers but neglected the needs of farmers and the safety of schoolchildren.

Rainy weather and muddy conditions were delaying construction projects such as the extension of West 15th Street, the Haskell Avenue street project and the $2.9 million expansion of the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center.
