Seeking assistant coach: Barry Johnson, coach of the Lawrence Phenix 10U softball team, is looking for an assistant coach because of a procedure he’s having in November. He could use extra help on the team. He could use a parent as an assistant but would prefer not to. The team will practice on Mondays, indoors during the winter in Lawrence and have a full spring/summer tournament schedule. The team will not be playing league. The tournaments will be in the K.C. Metro and Topeka areas. The team may travel to Omaha for an indoor tourney in Feb.

If you would be interested or know someone, pass along information. Reach Barry by phone (785-218-9155) or e-mail (phenixfastpitch@yahoo.com).

Softball clinic: Kansas University softball assistant coach D.J. Mathis will hold a six-week pitching clinic this fall for pitchers of all ages and skill levels.

The clinic includes six one-hour sessions with Mathis, who was an all-American pitcher at Oklahoma from 2006-09, and will be held in the Anschutz Sports Pavillion on the KU campus. The cost of the clinic is $300 and sessions will run on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and Dec. 4, 12 and 19. Participants can choose from three different time slots: 5:30-6:30 p.m., 6:30-7:30 p.m. or 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Trail Hawks to host 10K: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the second annual “Sanders’ Saunter Heavy 10k Trail Run,” Saturday, Nov. 20 on Clinton Lake’s North Shore Trails.

“Heavy” means the course is slightly longer than an official 10-kilometer race — about 6.5 miles. The Lawrence Trail Hawks are Lawrence’s original trail- and ultra-running club.
