McKinney endorsed by Kansas-National Education Association in race for state treasurer

? Kansas State Treasurer Dennis McKinney has been endorsed by the state’s largest teachers’ union.

The Democratic incumbent is seeking a full term in the Nov. 2 election. He was appointed to the office in late 2008 by then-Gov. Kathleen Sebelius after the incumbent treasurer, Lynn Jenkins, was elected to the U.S. House.

McKinney is a former Kansas House minority leader. The Kansas-National Education Association cited his past support for schools in endorsing him.

McKinney is also backed by the Kansas Farm Bureau and the National Rifle Association.

The Republican challenger is Sedgwick County Treasurer Ron Estes. He’s been endorsed by Jenkins.
