Kansas forward Carolyn Davis gets preseason All-Big 12 honors

Kansas' Carolyn Davis turns away as Illinois State's Katie Broadway reaches for the ball Thursday, March 25, 2010, during the second half of a Women's NIT game at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Kansas University sophomore forward Carolyn Davis was named honorable mention on the preseason All-Big 12 team on Tuesday.

Davis, who earned a spot on last year’s Big 12 All-Freshman Team, was one of 13 players selected in a vote of the league coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote on their own players.

Davis averaged 10.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a freshman, while setting a Kansas single-season record for field-goal percentage at 71.9. Davis, who knocked down 105 of 146 shots from the floor, averaged 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during league play on her way to Freshman All-America honors.

Baylor became the first team in conference women’s or men’s basketball history to claim all three of the Big 12 preseason individual awards. Brittney Griner was named preseason Player of the Year, Brooklyn Pope captured preseason Newcomer of the Year, and Odyssey Sims was selected preseason Freshman of the Year.

Melissa Jones (Baylor), Kelsey Bolte (Iowa State), Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma) and Danielle Adams (Texas A&M) joined Griner on the Preseason All-Big 12 team.
