The Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club is hosting a Trivia Night Oct. 22 to raise funds for its service projects, including scholarships for high school students, youth leadership academies, teacher recognitions and support for the pre-K program at Kennedy School, as well as Rotary exchange students, projects for water purification in Panama and Rotary’s program to eradicate polio.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Alvamar Country Club, 1809 Crossgate. Teams will compete to answer trivia questions for many categories. Cost is $25 per person. For more information or to register for the event, contact Bruce Roberts at 331-3310 or broberts@sunflower.com.

University Bridge Club announces results of its Oct. 2 meeting with hosts Tom and Cathy Waller.

Blue winners were Al Smith, first; John Golden, second; Alice Akin, third; John Stark, fourth; and Rhetta Jo Noever, fifth.

Pink winners were JoAnne Kready, first; Carol Smith, second; Virginia Williams, third; Betty Vincent, fourth; and Cora Kuepker, fifth.

The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Sept. 18 at the American Legion Post No. 14, 3408 W. Sixth St. After the DAR ritual and flag salute, Melodee Wallace introduced guests. The president general’s message and National Defender was read. Shari Johnson talked about the chapter’s Constitution Week activities. Officers and committee reports were given. It was announced that members will gather on Wednesday to prepare trail mix for the Maple Leaf Festival next Saturday. After the meeting, members carpooled to the Haskell University Cultural Center and Museum for a tour. On Sept. 30, members participated in the 4th annual Parade of Heroes at The Legends. The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on Sept. 29 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Mary Mertz and Shari Krentzel, first in A; Margrete Hartman and Albert Ballard, second in A, and first in B and in C; Chris Lane and Eleanor Patton tied for third in B with Marilyn Martin and Jack Flickinger; Martin and Flickinger, were also second in B and in C; and Barbara Haverty and Angie Davidson, third in B and C.

East-West winners were Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier, first in A and B; Lois Clark and Mark Osborn, second in A and B; Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, third in A; and Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel, first in C.

The Thursday Morning Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on Sept. 30 was directed by Lester Dalton. Winners were Hanni Zellman and Lester Dalton, first; Bob Hemenway and Jan O’Connor, second; Willi Stark and Virginia Seaver, third; and Florine Creek and Jean Khatib, fourth.  

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on Oct. 1 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Virginia Seaver and Sally Taylor, first in A; Chris Lane and Yvonne Hedges, second in A and first in B; Grant Sutton and Klee Zaricky, third in A and second in B; and Bob Hemenway and Eleanor Patton, fourth in A, third in B, and first in C.

East-West winners were David Piro and Paul Heitzman, first in A; Larry Weatherholt and Steven Vossler, second in A; Dee Scott and Bill Remington, third in A and first in B; Clara Elkins and Robert Dailey, fourth in A and second in B; and Patricia Lechtenberg and Jan O’Connor, third in B and first in C.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on Oct. 4 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Lester Dalton and Christopher Kulig, first in B and C; Mary Fenlon and Julia Dalton, second in A; Larry Weatherholt and Fred Dischman tied for third in A with Craig Huneke and Lois Clark; Huneke and Clark, were also second in B; and Vince Nordberg and Shari Krentzel, third in B.
