Lawrence police arrest suspect in aggravated battery, assault on Arkansas Street

Lawrence police have arrested a 27-year-old Lawrence man in connection with a Thursday incident in which an Olathe man said he was hit with a metal object during an argument.

The 57-year-old Olathe man reported to officers at 4:30 p.m. Thursday that the two men were acquaintances and were arguing over property and money at the Lawrence man’s residence in the 100 block of Arkansas Street.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said the Olathe man told officers the argument became physical and that he was struck with a metal object. He alleged the suspect displayed a knife but did not use it. The Olathe man then left the area and contacted police.

Sarna said the Olathe man had abrasions on his back and a possible rib injury. Medics examined him, but he declined further attention.

Police then located the suspect, who was not injured, and after an interview arrested him on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault. He could appear before a judge Friday afternoon.

The Journal-World does not name suspects unless they are formally charged.
