25 years ago: Engineering firm plans to break ground for west Lawrence research park

Hall-Kimbrell, a Lawrence-based environmental engineering firm, was planning to break ground in the University Corporate and Research Park during the month of October. The extension of West 15th Street which would provide access to the research park would not be completed before winter, but limited traffic use would be allowed during the winter.

Cancer researchers from around the world were meeting at Kansas University’s International Conference on Antimutagenesis and Anticarcinogenesis. It was the first international conference held specifically on the prevention of the types of genetic damage that could lead to cancer.

Malaysians were listed as the largest single group of foreign students at KU. Of the 1,646 students from other countries attending KU during the fall semester, 158 were from Malaysia.
