For fall: Casual layers look just right

As fall slowly creeps in, make subtle changes in your wardrobe. This way, you’ll be totally prepared by the time the leaves all reach the ground. Read on for a few suggestions, alterations and style tips for a fabulous fall look.

Rose gold:

Rose-colored jewelry is increasing in popularity this fall. Pick out a rose-gold statement necklace, ring, chunky bracelet or wristwatch. Its enticing, luminescent hue adds a bit of shimmer to your outfit and glow to your skin. Plus, the color of rose gold still falls into the natural, neutral category, a great addition to the popular clothing colors of fall, like army green, camel, gray and brown.

Thigh-high socks:

Mourning the near-end of your summer wardrobe? Putting your favorite shorts and skirts to rest? Thigh-high socks are the perfect solution! Tall socks can add necessary warmth and fun texture to your outfit. Look for chunkier knit socks, and play with layers and length. Find pairs with contrasting interiors — you can fold them over and wear them just below your knee, too. For creative, practical ways to wear your socks, check out Rag & Bone Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear. Casual brown belt:

I’m so pleased that casual belts are finally popping up on celebrities and models. A laid-back, brown belt is an easy way to alter a frilly dress, taking it to a more accessible level that is wearable and much more everyday. Wrap a worn-in brown belt around shimmery, short dresses or satin tunic-tops for a defined shape and comfortable-looking outfit. If your belt is too long, no biggie! Simply tuck the extra length up and around the belt, securing the end in a loop.

Neutral blazer:

If you already own a boyfriend blazer and love the look, pick up another, similar jacket that is super-versatile this fall. A camel-colored, tan blazer is a nice alternative to the navy-blue or black blazer in your closet. Pick one that is slouchy and comfortable, roomy enough for layering cardigans and sweatshirts underneath to create a personalized overcoat. You can change out the layers according to the weather, always maintaining the perfect weight.

Comfy, cropped pants:

The casual, cropped pant is still lingering, first introduced almost a year ago, when athletic-inspired fashions and sporty accessories stormed the runways. If you haven’t tried one yet, look out for a comfortable, slouchy pant to wear right now. The fabric can be casual or dressy, cotton or silky-satin — but the shape is universally similar — almost like a pair of perfect sweatpants, not too tight, not too loose. Find a pair with a drawstring waist and stretchy hems that can be pushed up around your calf. Pair your comfy, cropped pants with ankle socks and heels, a loose-fit T-shirt or long-sleeve, and a boyfriend blazer for a fun, different look.
