A new fundraising campaign for Kansas University’s libraries will get a boost every time the KU football team scores a touchdown this year.

The libraries and Kansas Athletics have partnered to form the Gridiron Gifts Football Challenge, supported by football coach Turner Gill.

Participants in the fundraising challenge will pledge a certain amount of money per touchdown that KU scores during the 2010 season.

The challenge includes the 12 touchdowns the team has scored before playing Baylor on Saturday, and all the touchdowns scored during the rest of the season.

Last year, the team scored 45 touchdowns.

The contributions will support the KU Libraries enrichment fund. More information is available at www.lib.ku.edu/gridirongifts.

Great idea! I remember that Mangino was an avid supporter of the KU libraries as well.

Uh. I'll bite. Exactly where and how is the football team...or the athletic department...giving a boost to the KU Libraries???

It sounds like WE have to make pledges for every time the team scores a touchdown...and that's the ONLY way the Libraries makes money from this.

How about Turner Gill and/or the athletic department themselves actually donating money to the library every time the team scores a touchdown??? Or matching the public's donations??? Now THAT would REALLY be "the football team giving a boost" to the libraries.
