Star atop Emporia State University building to be lit for holidays

? Emporia State University gets into the holiday spirit this week with a tradition that dates back more than 70 years.

The university says a star will be lit at 4 p.m. Tuesday on top of Plumb Hall. The building is located in the Sunken Garden area on the south lawn of the campus.

Students from Emporia State’s early childhood center will sing holiday songs. The school’s mascot, Corky, also will participate in the event.

The university says the annual Star Lighting Ceremony has its origins in the late 1930s. The public is invited to attend, and the ceremony will be postponed to Thursday afternoon in the event of bad weather Tuesday.
