Douglas County task force on open space, historic preservation to meet

Members of the Natural and Cultural Heritage Task Force will meet twice this month to work on preliminary recommendations for the Douglas County Commission.

The task force has been asked to decide how to best use $350,000 that commissioners set aside for open space and historic preservation. The task force won’t make recommendations on specific projects to fund.

The task force will meet from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Scrappers Paradise, 2104 W. 25th St. The second meeting will be Dec. 8 at the same time and place.

The public is invited to the meetings, but there will not be a public comment period. The task force spent the past few months traveling to communities throughout Douglas County to gather public input on what natural and historic features the county should try to protect.

The task force plans to have a final report to the county commission by February. Public comment will be invited at that time.
