25 years ago: Local merchant files complaint against coupon company

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 30, 1985:

  • Mike Brummett of Brummett Cleaning Systems, Lawrence, had recently filed a complaint with the Kansas attorney general’s office charging that Golden Sweepstakes of Olathe had not fulfilled their contract for advertising services. Sales staff from Golden Sweepstakes had sold space to local merchants for coupons which were to appear on the reverse side of cash register tapes at Rusty’s IGA. The merchants were told that the coupons would begin appearing on the tapes around Sept. 1, but they had yet to appear.
  • Lawrence was already enjoying (or suffering, depending on your outlook) weather that usually didn’t arrive until after the new year. The weekend forecast included travelers’ warning, freezing drizzle changing over to snow, and a snowfall of four to eight inches by Sunday night.
