Suspect arrested in stabbing incident

Police arrested a 38-year-old Lawrence man on charges of aggravated battery following a stabbing in the 800 block of West 27th Street early Thursday morning.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Randy Roberts said emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of 27th Street and Belle Haven Drive about 5:30 a.m. after a 26-year-old man reported being stabbed in the lower back. The victim was transported to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police arrested the suspect, who was an acquaintance of the victim, shortly thereafter, Roberts said.

The suspect was booked into the Douglas County Jail about noon Thursday, and no bond was set.
