Lenexa woman injured in western Lawrence crash

An 18-year-old Lenexa woman was injured after an early morning rollover crash Wednesday in far western Lawrence.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said officers were called a 2:35 a.m. to a reported accident with a car on fire at Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive, just east of Clinton Lake.

No one was inside the vehicle, and Sarna said the driver had briefly left the area. The driver, Mary K. Majewski of Lenexa, later returned once officers arrived.

She said no other passengers were in the car when the wreck occurred.

Sarna said officers determined her 1996 Chevrolet Lumina was headed west on Clinton Parkway when she drove left of the center line, struck the median and became airborne over a roundabout there.

The car rolled onto the south side of Clinton Parkway. Majewski got out of the car before it caught fire.

Majewski was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later transferred to a Kansas City area hospital. Sarna said she had a back injury that is not believed to be life-threatening.

He said officers were still investigating the circumstances up to the accident to determine if speed and alcohol contributed.
