MLS’ Kansas City Wizards change team name to Sporting Kansas City

? It’s a new era for Kansas City’s Major League Soccer team. And that means a new name, new stadium and new logo.

The Kansas City Wizards announced Wednesday that the team’s name will be changed to Sporting Kansas City.

Team CEO and managing partner Robb Heineman says the name change has been considered since OnGoal bought the team from the late Lamar Hunt in 2005.

The name change coincides with the team’s move next season to a new $180 million stadium Wyandotte County, Kan.

Heineman says the team will also have new colors — indigo and a shade of light blue — new uniforms and a new logo.
