High-speed car chase starts in Kansas City, ends on I-70 in Douglas County

A high-speed car chase that started in Kansas City, Mo., ended about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in Douglas County, about three miles east of Lawrence.

According to the Kansas City, Mo., police department, officers tried to pull over a car near Gardner Avenue and Chouteau Trafficway in Kansas City. The driver would not stop, and officers witnessed occupants throwing drugs out the window.

The car slowed enough so two passengers could exit the vehicle, and officers arrested them.

The car, a black Kia, then drove westbound on Interstate 70. Kansas City, Mo., police stopped chasing the car after it entered Kansas. The car struck a Kansas Turnpike booth, and Kansas officers started pursuing it.
