KU student arrested after fleeing from rollover accident

An 18-year-old Kansas University student was arrested early Saturday morning for operating under the influence and failure to report an accident after fleeing the scene of a rollover accident, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Kirk Fultz.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Crescent Road shortly before 2 a.m. after the man’s Subaru careened off a rock retaining wall, hit a water hydrant, and flipped.

A witness saw several people from another vehicle help flip the Subaru back on its wheels, Fultz said. The driver attempted to drive off, but police responded and arrested the driver. An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot and was later issued a citation for interfering with the duties of an officer.
