An 18-year-old Kansas University student was arrested early Saturday morning for operating under the influence and failure to report an accident after fleeing the scene of a rollover accident, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Kirk Fultz.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Crescent Road shortly before 2 a.m. after the man’s Subaru careened off a rock retaining wall, hit a water hydrant, and flipped.

A witness saw several people from another vehicle help flip the Subaru back on its wheels, Fultz said. The driver attempted to drive off, but police responded and arrested the driver. An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot and was later issued a citation for interfering with the duties of an officer.

Well, they apparently picked up plagiarism from an elder or two.

Alabamastreet 4 years, 1 month ago

Randall Barnes 4 years, 1 month ago

Food_for_Thought 4 years, 1 month ago

Did you actually see both accidents? Or were you just listening to your police scanner in your trailer home?

Rando1965 was just pointing out the LJWorld is selective in the local news it reports on. The LJWorld refuses to print all the local news like arrests, accidents, DWI, and court news. If you want to know what is going on in Lawrence read the Kansan, The Topeka Capital or the KC Star.

Alabamastreet 4 years, 1 month ago

And I was just pointing out who cares about some car wrecks. You all must be bored.

ConcernedCynic 4 years, 1 month ago

or you can read the Kansan, Topeka Captal or the KC Star online...

Scattered 4 years, 1 month ago

Now the printed LJWorld is the condensed version of the news!!!!

So, even spending the money will not get you the news, as of Monday.

LogicMan 4 years, 1 month ago

Wow -- even today's (Sunday's) is down to three sections.

If even I'm rethinking my paper subscription, then maybe print is doomed for real.

bearded_gnome=Rushbo fan incapable of original thought. There's another unfounded generalization for you ;-)

It's really somewhat amusing as my uncle is as die hard a conservative as you'll find and has driven Subarus for years. He even called into Rush's show one day to complain after hearing the comment-yet again.

WHY 4 years, 1 month ago

The fact that he is an eighteen year old drunk is a good sign that he is a future liberal though at this point I bet he is rather apolitical. In 10 years he will probably be a graduate of law school helping his fellow liberals beat DUI charges and making a ton of money. Liberals get to have all the fun.

Editorator 4 years, 1 month ago

Yah, because 18 year old drunken frat boys don't grow up to be Republican gladhands helping each other beat white-collar criminal charges, do they?

I can't wait until this paper goes bankrupt.

LogicMan 4 years, 1 month ago

Not for lack of money -- they just sold Sunflower Datavision for a lot. But they may need to pared it down to two or three days per week, etc., to continue the print edition.

Can anyone comment on the options for the LJW? For example, to replace it with an enhanced free mailbox version to increase their readership and thus ad revenues? Or if print goes away except for maybe Sundays and Wednesdays, could it survive? Or would a competing daily spring up?

WHY 4 years, 1 month ago

It won't as long as people like us post on here and read the ads on the side. The reduced cost of production (no paper, ink) and the broader availability (world) will guarantee this paper is around for a long time providing us with half stories and misleading headlines, 6th grade grammar we can all read, and the occasional personal interest story that brings a tear to the eye.

okay baddog, when you see a Subaru, what do you conclude, oh great and wise one who thinks he knows all sees all and smells all?

you nuts on the left make assumptions all the time based on what somebody drives, most especially that somebody is either evil or stupid for driving an SUV.
